About Stewart Bowman and the Accu-Riser Bows:

I started shooting target archery when I was 9-years-old, in Ontario, Canada, thanks to the JOAD program, and run by Tom Mack of Trans Canada Archery. After about 3 years of shooting, and with the help of many people, but especially Klaus Klienschmidt, who taught me many things that help me to this day, I became a competitive shooter. I competed in many tournaments over the years, and won 19 Canadian Nationals in various classes. In 1972 I was one of the first Canadians to shoot a compound bow in competition and I loved the technology. I shot for various US and Canadian bow companies for a few years and then started building my own bows.

I have an exceptionally long draw (about 33“) and was having trouble getting a bow that would stay together for a season or more. I am a tool maker by trade and taught well by my father. The skills he taught me enabled me to manufacture my own bows. I built a variety of custom bows with my popular Torque-Free Grip, and over time found a few friends who wanted to shoot the bow I was building.

In 1982, I introduced my first production bow for sale and called it the Accu-Riser. This bow had a hard rock maple laminated Riser, with wood and carbon limbs. It was a great seller and I won many tournaments with it, as did many of my Customers.

In 1986 I moved from Canada to Phoenix, AZ, for more competition! (What a humbling experience!). I then developed the new Accu-Riser Bow with a machined aluminum riser, and I started using Barnsdale Premium limbs .This bow shot exceptionally well and was my only model for many years. I used a variety of cams and cable systems over the years; most of which I purchased from others. I won a few of NAA Target Nationals using the Accu-Riser and many of my customers around the world had great success.

In the year 2000, I started development on the new Accu-Riser II model, and at the same time I developed the Wedel Max Cams. These cams are named after my good friend, Juan Jose Wedel, from Costa Rica, who suggested that I add the 3rd groove and make a true centered shoot thru system, as I had been using Don Kudlaceks split cable systems for years. By the time I finished development of the cams, I was not the first one out with them, as Jimmy Despart had already developed and introduced them, so I am licensed under a Martin Archery Patent on this style of cam. I used these cams on the original Accu-Riser, and once I had tested and perfected the new model, started production of the new Accu-Riser II, which was the culmination of 15 years of ideas and improvements that I visualized on the original model.

The new bow worked beyond my greatest expectations, and I have been building this model ever since. I have made 10 major revisions to the Wedel Max Cam Modules, and the tenth generation has proven to work very well for all, so it is my main setup. I call these latest modules “Easy Pull” as they feel a lot like a round wheel, with a stop at full draw. In 2003 I made one last modification to the cam bodies, to make them pull easier and have less string vibration, and with the new Modules they are working very well.
As I am now over 50, I have been competing in the Masters class at NAA events, and have enjoyed great success in these and in the Senior Olympics.

I hope I have a chance to meet you at a Tournament or Trade Show in the near future.
